Painted Floors

I just love the look of a white painted floor.  I'm sure you are in shock over that one!
I'm also sure that most of my in-real-life friends wouldn't agree with me.
I love white.  Have for a loooong looooooong time.  When I was in High School I asked for, and received, a subscription to 'Victoria' magazine.  One of the issues featured and all-white garden.
I was in love!  I wanted to do that too.  But since it was not my garden but my Mom's I didn't.
I did get a white rose bush for Christmas one year but I didn't take the best care of it and it didn't flourish like it could have.  I loved the idea of an all-white wedding, but for various reasons I never pursued it.
But wait.... I was talking about floors wasn't I?!!  Oops!

This room belongs to Tracy at French Larkspur.
Every time she posts pics of her decor I just swoon.  I love it!  And I think the biggest difference between her stuff and other white decor that I love is the floors.  Her floor is painted white.  Someday I am going to have a white painted floor.  Somewhere.  Even if it's only in my sewing room someday.  You see, my husband likes wood.  I like wood too, I just like mine with a beautiful, gorgeous coat of white paint!  But getting my main floors painted white will probably be too much of a stretch.  And I'm fine with that - I like my natural hardwood pretty well :)

I really don't remember where I got this one and the one below.  I'm thinking probably Remodelista.
Glad for Pinterest now to eliminate this problem.  But I still have all these cool photos saved on my computer.  ( you know I really like what they used those old bed springs for.  Might have to be on the lookout for old bed springs!  What a cool inspiration board.  And I just know my hubby would be SO impressed)

Love the industrial look, the white floor, the glass domes over the delectable desserts...
What's NOT to love!?!  I want to go to this resaurant.  Too bad I don't know where it is...

Totally off topic but Sis this one is for you.  It's not the original photo I had in mind but the graveled area and grassed center is the idea I thought you should use when you get to the landscaping stage!!!!!
Just my opinion though, so don't feel pressured. :)

{No Room In The Inn}

"He went there to register with Mary, who was expecting a child.  While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave girth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."  -Luke 2:5-7

Is there room in your heart for Him today???
He wants to reside there!  LET HIM IN!!!!

Just because I like the whole area.  Please ignore the Christmas gifts sitting in the corner.  And the fingernail polish on the table.  I didn't stage the area very well:)

Inspiration

Some pictures from my 'creative ideas' folder.
No I don't know where they all came from unless they have the name watermarked on the picture.
I'm off to find a warm spot to curl up for the evening!
Coming up soon is a really fun giveaway I've been privileged to offer you!  Watch for it soon!

Love this stairway.  Seriously considering adding some numbers to my steps when finally get them painted.  But I might mix mine up.  Or would that make it difficult to climb them??!

Have a coffee table that needs a facelift?  I'd highly recommend trying this.  It's just darling.

By the way my laundry always looks I need this in my laundry room.  And maybe in every room of the house so I don't keep 'forgetting' to do the laundry!

This is just the most fun, girly, romantic tablecloth ever.  Want one?  I'd love to make one for you:)

I am going to figure out how to make one of these for myself.  If you know me in-real-life you should soon see me wearing one of these:)

{MUSICAL FURNITURE}

Remember playing 'musical chairs' as a child? There are enough chairs for all but one person. When the music stops everyone dashes for a seat. The one left standing is 'out'.
Well, I've been playing 'musical furniture lately'.
Moving things around, trying it here... nah, it needs to go there...
this will sit here till this other project is done, then it can go over there...
That sort of thing. Anyone know what I'm talking about??

This desk finally moved out of the living room a few months ago and now resides in Big Sister's closet. She loves having it there. And I still need to take pictures of it where it is now. I'm waiting on the closet to be neat and tidy. So don't hold your breathe on seeing those pics anytime in this decade. Big Sister is 12. And a half. I knew you would understand!!

This dresser also went with Big Sister to her new room - from the dining room.

This dresser (which is a favorite of mine) took the place of the one in the dining room.  This one had been in the bathroom.

This took the spot in the bathroom.
It had been my dresser.
I have been without a dresser for awhile.
Till now.
More on that in a little.

This is the furniture that was the 'last one standing' in this game of 'musical furniture'.
It was 'out'!
Couch and Love Seat had to leave the game.  They now reside at the home of a friend who needed some more furniture.  And I'm sure they are enjoying themselves there immensely!

You see, we acquired a piece of furniture that is truly musical!

This old upright piano!  We are all so thrilled with it.
And that is a story in itself for another day, another time, another post!

Because we sent the Couch and Love Seat packing we needed something to sit on.
Enter this lovely piece.  Lovely is said tongue-in-cheek.
Really I do love the shape and size of this thing and it is pretty comfy:)
It's covered with quilts right now that always need repositioned.
The plan is to reupholster it.
And eventually sell it and get what we REALLY want.

So.  Game ended for awhile but if you were following closely you will remember that I am now w/out a dresser.  And it's been a few months.  Not ideal but I just closed my eyes to the fact that I had stacks of clothes on the floor beside my bed.
We had a dresser stored in the basement that matched the table above.  Travis uses this little table as a night stand.  Plan was to paint the dresser to match and I would use it.
But... when we pulled it out of the basement it was rather moldy inside.  So it went to the curb to await the trash truck.  Guess it got left standing too!

The other night in the middle of the night I had a brainstorm.
Also in the basement was a bookshelf that had played it's own game of 'musical furniture'.
I had been thinking I would get rid of it since I didn't have anywhere to put it anymore.  That's before I thought outside the box and considered it more than just a bookshelf.  And I needed a dresser remember?
So this dresser above, is now sitting in my bedroom ready to get my clothes off the floor.
And in the dining room, where this had been is ....

...This!!!!
We pulled that bookshelf out of the basement where it was languishing, cleaned off the spiders and webs and dust, and then - I pulled the back off.  The back was several thin layers of veneer which had not stayed very flat.  And I like it so much better without the back anyway.  Takes away the 'bookshelf' look and gives it a more 'open shelving' look.  And I'm loving having my stuff easily accessible and on display.  I haven't been this excited about a redo for a long time.  I just love the game of 'musical furniture'!  When it turns out this great anyway:)

Old post cards are so fun to decorate with.
Love the old mortar and pestle from the science lab of an old school.

Old flask from the science lab of a school. (Thanks Kara!)

More old jars from the science lab. (again, thanks to Kara:)

Love these white pitchers.  They are going to help me outfit my booth for the
"Brick Farmhouse Event"!!

Glittery crown wand from Damask Designs

This crown is one of my very favorite things (I'm sure I've told you that before)
It's fun having it in a spot that it really shows up against all the shades of white.

And another pic of the whole thing - just because I think it's fun and I like it so much:)
Kara, I wish I'd had your camera here to photograph this!  Mine just doesn't do too well at these full shots since it's little trip to the floor.

This -n- That

Forgot to show you the finished pics of my industrial cart turned coffee table!  I love it.  The decor on it has changed already since I took the picture but I'm too lazy to take another picture, get it off the camera, and upload it.  Actually, I'm too busy.  I am WAY behind on my sewing schedule and I need to be at the sewing machine instead of the computer.  Pray for me that I can accomplish record-breaking amounts of sewing today!

The hails storm we had a few weeks ago.  It was pretty awesome.  We still need to get our vehicle taken in to get the damage fixed.
That is a quarter laying beside the hail balls.
My Columbus customer called me several weeks ago and wanted to know if I could make a pinafore/apron like one she had seen online.  So I did some digging and unearthed this pattern.  I think I purchased it from Amazon.
And this is what I came up with.  When I have some more time I have more pics to post of all the details.  It's made of unbleached muslin and is rather darling:)

Latest skirt.  This one is for a friend but I'm really wishing Joann's still had the fabric - I'd make myself one!  The ruffles took TIME but they are oh so cute it was worth it!

School Sales are the Bomb!!

Band Hats.  I bought 3.  Aren't they cute?!
2 boxes of 'junk'
Auctioneer said there were shears in the box and no one was bidding past $3.  So I did.  Got the whole lot for $6.  And yes, I know these aren't dressmakers shears but aren't they cute?  They fit in quite well with my collection of scissors.

Box of cute paper clips.  Big Sister promptly confiscated them.
Stainless measuring scoop.  I know I will find a fun use for this!
Large old beaker.  Love this.  Can't wait to put some LONG stemmed plants in here:)

 Pyrex.  Made in the USA!!!!!!!!
Old, BIG, glass funnel.  And the crack the auctioneer thought was in this??  Not a crack at all but a line from the mold.
Very cool old wood and metal school chairs.  Awesome.  Love these!  Thanks to my hubby who nabbed them from the buyer who only wanted the plastic ones in the lot he bought.  $3 for 4 chairs.  You know what these things would cost new????
Hubby bought the band saw for $35.  He was rather pleased to put it mildly:)
Lockers.  I am so in love with lockers.  They are just so cool!  Vintage, metal, cute, practical, organize, storage.... How can you go wrong??
Interesting to load.  Praise God for kind people willing and ready to help.
Loaded and ready to head home.
Ahhhhh.  Now that is better.  You doubt?  Let me show you...
This is after.  I know the room is not finished yet but this is still SO much better.  Just look at this before pic...
See that jumbled up pile of coats, toys, buckets, etc....  Some of the toys went into the IKEA organization system in Middle and Little Sister's room.  And now I don't have to look at the coats, boots, hats, jackets, etc. that I tried to organize neatly with just an open shelf and hooks.  Now to just finish drywall and floor and get that cool sink installed!  Add some open shelving above the sink and fill the selves with cool storage bottles and I will be in laundry heaven!!

Little Sister was so excited to have more lockers!  She tried to put her purse in as soon as she saw them but I made her wait till I had washed them out.  Once they were in place though, this was the first thing to reside in our 'new' lockers:)

Brass stencils and all the white letters below, thanks to Andrea who nabbed them in the nick of time!  She got the table and all the stuff on it for $17.50.  We split the stuff.  Fun fun!!
