Laundry Soap

I think I've done a post on laundry soap before.  I've tweaked my recipe since then.

And I've started using my mixer to grate the soap.  I grate at least 4 bars each time I make soap.

The white powdery stuff under the grated soap is...

...washing soda and...

...borax.

1 bar grated Fels-Naptha, 1 cup washing soda, 1 cup borax...

then I add...

1 cup powdered Tide.
I do love my Tide.  I like it just fine as my one and only laundry soap. BUT.  It's expensive.
Doing it this way I still get the clean smell of tide and the power of Tide but also I get the cleaning power of the homemade stuff too!  Together I have an inexpensive, mean-on-stains laundry soap.
For stains I wet the stained area and rub some of this mixture into the fabric.  Works like a charm for me!

The fact that it looks neat in a glass jar doesn't hurt anything either.

Have you ever made soap?  If you buy your laundry soap what kind is your favorite?

Ah, the delicious aroma!

I love homemade bread. I love the wonderful smell of homemade bread baking. But in the 11 1/2 years I have been married I have VERY rarely made the stuff. For some reason it doesn't want to raise in this old house of ours and if it DOES raise it takes 3 times longer than it should. So I quit trying. I've had these quick hamburger buns when a friend made them and since I was wanting to make sandwiches for a food exchange I decided to give them a try. And they turned out! Properly! I am still amazed! I took the cut buns on the trays to my warm living room that is heated with a corn stove to let them raise. It worked, they are delicious! WOO-HOO!

Yummy!

I happened to stop in at McMaster and Storm right before Christmas. (just happened to, you know!) Kara was finishing up her gift wrapping and candy bags. Look what she gave me! I was very glad I stopped in when I did. Homemade Toffee. Yum. We are all hoping the next time Kara decides to make it she remembers us!

Thanks Kara, it was great.
